Unhappy How did you become an Atheist?

Even though religion is a choice, we all were born into one or the other religion. No one was born an atheist.

Since childhood, our parents and the people around us corrupt our mind with the notions of God and his mightiness. We are not allowed to think otherwise untill much after.

So when did you become an atheist and how?

I am not an athiest, but i have an explanation of my own that is worthy of everybody's consideration. Athiests are mostly from developed countries. you know, they are a bit well off, with an amazingly high degree of liberty of choice, and they have been too attached with material things. When you get to enjoy this physical world too much, you will at some point refuse to believe that there is another life after it.

I am an atheist and I am from a 3rd world (or politically correct: developing) country.

I was born Catholic and for a few years in my childhood I was active in church activities. I was in the Kids for Christ, Youth for Christ, and I was even in the church choir for some time. Despite this, I never really felt the same dedication and faith that the people around me did. They would praise and worship God and go on and on, and I just always felt out of place. So I guess I always just 'knew' and felt that I didn't believe in God. I didn't become an atheist, I always was one, and I just I guess...was a hypocritical Catholic for some time, if you could call it that.

Mine was more of a general explanation. Yours is a unique case. At some point you tried really hard to find God, but you gave up. Just an assumption.

I, for the first time in life, questioned. I was shattered to see I've no answers. I asked another question, again having no answer. It went on and by the end of the hour, I was an atheist.

Can you share what are these questions that you seek?

Does it also starts with these 2 famous phrases: 'who am I' and 'where did the world came from?'

It was honestly more like I was pushed into and forced to find God. I was sent to Catholic schools all my life--grade school, high school and even university, and after some time I just found myself realizing how dubious some things could be and how many answers could not be found. But yes, I just figured I was always one.

My parents were atheists from the beginning, and both of them raised me with atheistic traits and beliefs. However, now that I've grown old, I'm becoming curious to the different beliefs and doctrines of various religious sects.

Kind of. The first question was "What's the meaning of life?" Couldn't find an answer. Instead another question popped up. If someone named God did create life, he must have something in mind while creating life. He must have wanted us to do something.

I got back to my first question, "What's the meaning of life?" Again, I couldn't find an answer. Next thing, I questioned God. And I'm an atheist today.

Perhaps, you are just lost and doesn't found your true passion yet. You questioned God because you can't find the answers, but you should realize that everything has a time frame. Anything wouldn't appear out of nowhere, there must be growth from a simple structure to a more complex structure. You just have to wait and understand a lot of things before giving up on something.
