I try and stay away from politics here, but I just can't stop thinking about this. What in the world is Europe so excited about in Obama? The man made a speech in Germany and everyone is acting like he is the new Messiah. I listened to his speech. It sounded like the same sort of thing that we have all heard from Miss America candidates for decades. Is anyone else amazed at the lack of substance in any of this man's speeches?
Maybe this is the whole point. Maybe we do not want statesmen anymore. Perhaps we prefer charisma over substance. Maybe this is why the American news networks are sending their top celebrity journalists as part of his entourage. It's painfully obvious who the American Media want to be our president. That's their right, I just wish they would be truthful and less manipulative about it. Interestingly enough, his poll numbers have been dropping since Americans have watched Europe fawn over him, and his opponent has caught up with him in every poll I can find. Anyway, I do enjoy watching the process. I can't vote for either of these men as president of the United States. They are both against real liberty for Americans because both would increase the United States federal power instead of reduce it. It sort of reminds me of the Jimmy Carter vs Gerald Ford race. I hope the victor is not as bad as Jimmy Carter was. I can't believe either of these men have become the top two contenders for the worlds most powerful political office. What really bothers me in all of this is this. It's 1938 all over again. It really is. Europe is asleep as the power of fascism is rising next door and none seem to have the memory or the fortitude to learn the lessons of the past. The same call for appeasement and negotiation is being hailed as reason when dealing with the unreasonable. It did not work in 1938, it simply gave the tyrants what they needed. More time. But the people want to hear kool-aid Miss America speeches. They want to hear how wonderful everything is going to be. No meat, no vision of HOW to achieve anything. Just kool-aid. Never mind the fact that the people were against the very policies that caused the wall to come down. It didn't come down through appeasement and negotiation, but through the preparations for ending the ideology of assured mutual destruction. NATO got serious, something the UN is incapable of. The Third Reich and Mussolini and Imperial Japan were subdued because Europe awoke, but the cost of waking up too late was devastating. There never should have been a second world war. Appeasement and negotiation allowed it to happen. They were drinking kool-aid then too. Personally, I believe the US needs to stick to it's own continent, drill for it's own oil, create it's own alternative energies and let Europe deal with its neighbors. Fascism is not growing powerful on our borders, and we have more natural reserves and ability for invention than almost anybody. Let Europe take care of their own neighborhood. When the threat becomes one that endangers US soil, then perhaps we should get involved. Canada is fairly wise in this respect. Blessings
