I'm a learner really.. My garden does seem to be good for tomatoes though, the first year I grew some of the variety "moneymaker" and soon learned why they were so named, there were hundreds of them! My wife made the majority into tomato pasta sauce (for freezing) & very delicious it was too!
The thing I found with Gardening is to pay it plenty of attention, keep an eye on things & take action on anything that looks odd, the internet is a great resource for info on pests/diseases etc & what to do... I'm sure your husband will be a great success provided he puts the hours in!
