And especially in a time like then, when people had barely any knowledge of how the universe worked, people would think i was magic, or maybe perhaps, the son of a god.

Take a look at Saul/Paul's conversion. It goes a fair bit beyond parlour tricks. Also bear in mind Saul's position in Jewish society prior to his conversion; it makes his conversion even more remarkable.
