Wow, it is amazing what you find when surfing through old threads. Time for a bit of necromancy.
Despite the OP being banned I will see it is catches anyone elses attention.
I do read Harry Turtledove and find his books quite entertaining.
I have read all his Balance series: Aliens invade Earth during WW2. Strange premise, but a good read.
Also the American war series: The confederacy win the War of Secession. It carries on throught a second Mexican war, an alternate WW1, when the north and the south are on two different sides (trench warfare in Virginia) and is currently ending on the alternate WW2 senario, where once again the north and south are fighting each other.
Only problem is that he can get a bit long in the tooth when he nears the end of a series.
I have also read two of his stand alone books. The Two Georges, a history where the US never had a war of independence and is still a part of the British empire. Well written and worth a look.
The other is The Guns of the South, where a South African time traveller comes back to the American Civil War and supplies AK47s to help them win the war, because the South have the same regards to black people as his group does as. Again an odd premise, but doesn't disappoint.
