That is what they are taught, if someone detours from the path which matches theirs and their teaching.... they are a backslider, someone who has turned from God
Its delusional thinking based in FEAR based teaching, and it works for many and prevents them from ever stepping outside of the boundaries of their teaching which they are told is TRUTH.
A person doesnt need to become or at least to Declare themselves an atheist to be considered LESS than a believer in God
The Ironic part is that No one truly knows what people agree or disagree with around them.. they might think they are surrounded by " Likeminded Christians " yet there are many who sit in silence knowing things dont add up, knowing something is not right about the picture they have been told is everything.... but because they dont disagree or dont speak up.. or cause any commotion in the ranks.. they remain " Christians " or better put " Believers in God " for the time being.
