Hello JM,
As the days go by, there are added those that discount the Bible as God's word, such as yourself. It is as Revelation 16:12 prophetically spoke of our time period, that the symbolic waters of the "great river Euphrates...was dried up, that the way might be prepared for the kings from the rising of the sun." This "river" mean "peoples and crowds and nations and tongues."(Rev 17:15) Just as the waters of the Euphrates river were diverted by Cyrus the Great in 539 B.C.E., in order to bring ancient Babylon's downfall, so likewise today, the symbolic "waters" of Babylon the Great, which is a worldwide false religious organization that includes the churches of Christendom, are drying up, with individuals leaving it and also discarding the Bible. I am not surprised that the Bible is now being set aside, being replaced by human reasoning. It is as God said of the nation of Israel, that "there are two bad things my people have done: They have left even me, the source of living water, in order to hew out for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns, that cannot contain water."(Jer 2:13) In 1992, although 84 percent of the French said that they were Roman Catholic, 25 percent did not believe in the resurrection of Jesus, 30 percent doubted the Bible's record of the miracles performed by Jesus, and 62 percent were doubtful of the existence of Satan. It as Jesus told the Jews, who did not believe he was the Messiah, that "even though you do not believe me, believe the works".(John 10:38) A reasonable person will seriously consider the evidence. And there is evidence that supports the Bible as accurate, as being the wisdom from God, as being inspired of God,(2 Tim 3:16) some of which has been provided. The Bible provides practical counsel and benefits, that is not seen elsewhere. For example, Proverbs 12:18 says: "There exists the one speaking thoughtlessly as with the stabs of a sword, but the tongue of the wise ones is a healing." Within a marriage, would not this make for more of a happy family life when applied ? Yet, how many marriage mates put this into practice ? Should we not think before we speak ? This is wisdom from God. Avoiding petty jealousy. Proverbs 14:30 says: "A calm heart is the life of a fleshly organism, but jealousy is rottenness to the bones". Many medical reports are now indicating that anger and hostility can become triggers for strokes and heart attacks. Some 13 years ago, Dr. Redford Williams, who was professor at Duke University Medical Center and after spending more than 20 years studying the impact of the mind and emotions on health, concluded that hostility, in the long run is a threat to health. He said that "getting angry is like taking a small dose of slow-acting poison." He further said that those who get angry, that the immune system may be weaker, basing this on a study of more than 1000 people at a Western Electric factory in Chicago over a 25 year period. Those who were hostile or angry were more at risk of dying from coronary disease as well as cancer. The Bible though gave wise counsel over 3000 years ago, to remain "calm" and not allow jealousy or anger to take control.(Prov 16:32)Solomon also wrote that "the calmness of the tongue is a tree of life, but distortion in it means a breaking down in the spirit."(Prov 15:4) This also applies to forgiveness, for Jesus said: " Happy are the merciful, since they will be shown mercy."(Matt 5:7) Those who base their life and happiness on the Bible can reap what Jesus said of an everlasting future on this earth,(Matt 5:5; Ps 37:11,29) whereby "each one (can sit) under his vine and under his fig tree, and there will be no one making them tremble, for the very mouth of Jehovah of armies has spoken it".(Micah 4:4) Can any human government or even science provide this definitive assurance ? |
