Spirit is the Breath of God.
"God formed a man out of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." (Genesis 2:7) The word we use for this animating principle comes from a Latin form, spiritus, "breath." It is related to words like "aspire," "expire," "inspire," and "perspire," as well as "sprightly" (full of life, animated). The Hebrew word in Genesis for breath is n'shamah and it comes from a root that means "blow," "breath," or "pant." In the Bible, it is used to describe God's breath as well as human breath. Breath is the element that God gave us that made us come alive. We retain this element, as it is the immortal companion of the body. We in essence have a dual nature. Paul alluded to this duality when he wrote "it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body." (1Co 15:44 RV) Many men have been misled by a theology that calls for a physical resurrection. This has been the undoing of a lot of philosophies and metaphysical reasonings that have arisen because of that false premise. Reading the text further proves that the resurrection is not physical. "Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption." (1Co 15:50 RV) Blessings
