Default Harry Turtledove

Anybody here read any of Harry Turtledove's alternate history novels?

The one I'm currently reading is "In the Presence of Mine Enemies". It's set in modern Germany where the Nazis ended up winning WW2. The main characters are Jews who have to keep their 'Jewishness' hidden.

It is a very interesting book.

Wow, it is amazing what you find when surfing through old threads. Time for a bit of necromancy.
Despite the OP being banned I will see it is catches anyone elses attention.
I do read Harry Turtledove and find his books quite entertaining.
I have read all his Balance series: Aliens invade Earth during WW2. Strange premise, but a good read.
Also the American war series: The confederacy win the War of Secession. It carries on throught a second Mexican war, an alternate WW1, when the north and the south are on two different sides (trench warfare in Virginia) and is currently ending on the alternate WW2 senario, where once again the north and south are fighting each other.
Only problem is that he can get a bit long in the tooth when he nears the end of a series.
I have also read two of his stand alone books. The Two Georges, a history where the US never had a war of independence and is still a part of the British empire. Well written and worth a look.
The other is The Guns of the South, where a South African time traveller comes back to the American Civil War and supplies AK47s to help them win the war, because the South have the same regards to black people as his group does as. Again an odd premise, but doesn't disappoint.

Sounds like a great read. I recognize a stolen story-line, from what Mycernius said, in the TV show Enterprise. There was a bit of time travel and the Captain found himself on Earth during WWII and some of the Nazi officers were aliens! Great stuff! *L* The Nazi Germans never looked so life-like! *L*

That wasn't back in time, that was on a different planet. The episode in from the original series called "Patterns of Force", when the Enterprise goes to the planet Ekos to find a cultural observer called John Gill, who has broken the prime dircetive by introducing Nazi ideas to the people.
Okay, I like Star Trek

Ah, goodie! A trekkie *L*

Mycernius, I believe we are talking about 2 different TV series. Here in the states, there was the classic "Star Trek" which is probably the one you're referring. Then most recently was "Enterprise" with Captain Jonathan Archer. That's the one I mentioned.

Ahh, explains it all. I watched ST:TOS more often that ST:ENT and I misread your post. Damn pity the cancelled that show, it showed signs of improvement.

It had been improving but it was also driving a lot of the hardcore trekkies nuts by little inconsistencies it portrayed.

Well the third seaon arc didn't help. Major inconsistancy. They should have concentrated more on the formation of the federation that that Xindi (?)rubbish. The Time cold war wasn't a paricularly good move either. Should leave that stuff to Doctor Who. (I want to know more about the Last Great Time War)

Yes, every time they made a little step towards forming the Federation, they would stop and go in a different direction. I also found it hard to believe that Vulcans were so non-Vulcan like at that point in time.
