Just a warning. This book is New Age and fantasy!

Om, I'm a sci-fi/fantasy freak, and I'd often thought about picking up that book series. But a word of warning. Don't allow a fiction to influence the reality of your life. Be entertained, of course, but don't let something so fantastical as Thomas Covenant direct how you look at the world around you.

I've read them... yes, they are new agey, fantasy fiction. Very well written, but not something that would help someone in an emotional crises.
Just out of interest, what parts of the books did you find so helpful? Was it the way he escaped from the misery of his unhappy life into another world, or was it the powers he had in the other world? I found it a compelling read about an awful man. I mean, let's face it, he's a rapist. So again, how did this book help you? It seems an odd choice of book for a Buddhist to love so much, that's all. I could recommend a really great library of books for you, but I reckon most of the Christians on here have already suggested them... ![]() Last edited by daughter : 06-05-2007 at 07:23 PM. When i read that book i see his struggle, his despair and, yes his darkness, but he is still forgiven despite his unwillingness to help, despite his crimes... i think it is a book everyone should read, because it teaches us that forgivness is given to people because they need it, not because they ask for it

sin is not really a word i use, as i do not believe in sin, not in the same way, i do not want to confuse the word. And we can all take different things from different books, its not so much how the book is written as how we see the book

So your belief is that there is no such thing as objective truth or morality, that all things are relative, and each individual creates their own reality?
You see, I believe that sin is sin, that rape is sin, and to call it "darkness" is to slide over just how "dark" it really is. |
