Default Beaconsfield Gold Mine Miracle

Hey Guys,

Just wondering if many of you from around the globe have heard about the Gold Mine miracle in Beaconsfield, Tasmania, Australia? I think it made a number of front page headlines all over the world.

Basically, what happened was... 925m below the surface, there was a rockfall in the gold mine. All managed to escape and were fine except for 3people. After a few days, one of the men, Larry Knight was unfortunatly found dead. After four days however, the search party heard the words they had been searching for "We're Alive".... and managed to locate the other two miners Todd Russell and Brant Webb.

It took another ten or so days for the rescue team to be able to bring them back up to the surface as then men were trapped in a cage about 120cm x 120cm and needed alot of drilling and bombs and stuff to get them out of it.

In this disaster though, alot of the Beaconsfield community did focus their attention on God and their prayers were answered. It was during a sunday evening prayer service that the news came of the miners being found.

Just wondering what other people have heard of this, or any comments or the like they would like to make.....

P.S - I was there when they came out of the mine

Wow Gav! Thank you for sharing this incredibly wonderful news. It is a shame that it takes incidents like this to bring people to the Lord, but if it does, then praise God. I had not read about this incident. I bet your must have been overcome with joy seeing those guys being brought up.

I haven't heard about it. Then again, I don't watch TV much, and can be a bit out of the loop at times.

It must have been amazing seeing these guys being brought back up! How did they survive several days in a 120x120 cm space? Was the rubble loose enough to allow air inside?

If the survival of two miners was a miracle, why did god not see fit to extend this same courtesy to Larry Knight? Perhaps unworthy of a miracle?

The simple truth is: an earthquake happened. A mine collapsed. Three men were in the mine. Two happened to be in a cage. The other person died. It has nothing to do with divine miracles or anything like that.

I think the people of Beaconsfield think alot differently. There was no chance of them surviving, but they prayed for it anyway, God delivered. Larry Knight may have been different, its all apart of Gods plan. Maybe it was because the people still had faith the other two would survive eventhough they had already seen tragedy.

You say that their survival was impossible... based on what exactly? I think it was entirely possible, given the fact that they were in a steel cage.

You use obscure logic here. Your logic goes as such:
Assertion #1: Some people prayed to a man in the sky to save the miners
Assertion #2: Two were saved
Conclusion: Therefore, the man in the sky saved them.

Do you see how flawed this is?

My understanding goes: if god was going to change his mind and decide not to crush two people, he probably wouldn't have wasted all that time and effort by making an earthquake.

he does a lot of things to demonstrate his glory.. take Lazarus for instance.. as garth you sound like martha who ran to jesus.. Oh if you had only been here, Oh if you had only did this or that...

Jesus is like.. in my words.....lady!.. your thinking with human understanding and logic! Do you really think.. people would marvel and give God glory for this mans life if he never died?... nah he died and I waited 2 days.. so I could raise him up and everyone would glorify God..

Garth.. God works in incredible ways.. who are we to stand.. telling God what he should or should not do..

Default Keep us happy pleeaaaasee

I too, live in Australia. It truly was an amazing story of courage, of community, which brought people to their knees in prayer, churches in Beaconsfield brought help to the media and it truly touched every Australian who sat at home, hoping, praying, checking for progress.

Why oh why do people need to say it wasn't God? We who believe in God, he sustains us, he is faithful to us. He makes us wake each morning with hope, with joy, with love for others. Hurting people, me included, need to believe in this higher being, where are we without hope? Please think of the hurting, before you send posts that only discourage people who need to cling to hope.

Larry Knight died. That was sad. There was so many emotions involved, the highs, the lows, which made all Australians feel they were part of the community of Beaconsfield.

You must be so proud to have physically been there. Unforgettable!
All I can say is AMEN! I want to see more of his mighty hand at work.
