Ive been studying between phileo love and agape love and As christians we are told to die for our friends if the situation arised.
John 15:13 The KJV says, "Greater (agape) love hath no man than >this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 17 These [things] I command you, in order that you be agape-loving one another. However earlier we are told to love our enemies in an agape way Luke 6: 27But I say unto you which hear, Love (Agape) your >>enemies, do good to them which hate you, So are we to die for our enemies? I believe we are. If were to follow the Lords example of agape love then if the situation arises then we should lay down our lives to save ones and give them a chance of salvation |

that´s what Jesus did. while we were yet sinners He died for us. i.e. while we were yet enemies of Him.
i agree with you: the believer is called to die, lay down their life for others - not only physically should the need arise, but on many, many, many opportunities in every-day-life when it will be dying to self for the sake of the Kingdom and increasing Christ-likeness. but we must remember that to a believer death is not the horrid end (the flesh might or most likely will think so), but with every death comes resurrection life! so in every every-day-situation where i give up MY right or MY fight, or keep the peace, in short lay down MY life, resurrection life follows. it can be greater spiritual freedom, greater peace, greater Christ-likeness, greater glory. for the joy set before Him, Christ endured the cross!! so should we. |
