Smile What's up with the new advertising?

When I look near the bottom of the forum home page, just above the listing of the most recent posts, I sometimes see some advertising reminiscent of the sapm that Jon asked us to warn him of: casinos, online poker, naked women going at it with full enthusiasm and links to adult sites.

Not that the women were bad looking, but it seemed a bit out of place to me for this site. Were others seeing those adds as well, or is it that I've been single for more than a year and my mind is playing tricks on me?

I could imagine someone could have a party with this on the 'lie about the person above you' thread. I might give it a go one of these days if I feel creative, something about 'New turn in Jon Mill's career'. If anyone wants to jump in before me, then please don't hold back!

greets,
Peter

lol I personally hadn't noticed. I just know that ads like that can be commonplace. It's quite amusing when you go to a fundamentalist Christian website/forum and see ads that say something like 'Discover Your Pagan Roots Today!'

All in all, if I'm not mistaken, Google ads pay a sort of commission if they're clicked on whilst on your site. So if it's making Jon a bit of extra money, where's the harm?

Smile Slow page loads

Another question about the forum: am I the only one sometimes experiencing slow page loads (running up to a minute or so, previously < 10 seconds to complete) recently? I get slow page loads both at home and at work, so it doesn't appear to be in my connection. Pages from other sites also load fine. This has been happening for about a week or so, although there might be a good margin of error on that estimate. Any others with similar experience?

greets,
Peter

update: Murphy's law in action. Of course, right after posting of slow page loads, things start working smoothly and quickly again. I wonder if this update to my post will make them slow again?

I had that happen yesterday---took at least a minute for the page to load because I had time to go to the kitchen for a snack & drink while waiting. Have had it happen before on occasion, too---though yesterday was super slow. I thought it odd since nobody has supersize photos in their siggies, which is an annoyance on other forums. I thought maybe it was because I am using a different browser, but it didn't happen at any other sites.
