I have been giving much thought on this forum for the past few days. I admit I have joined ourchristianplace, but it leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth every time I go there. I have also noticed that they have made Jeff (Greg over there) a mod. From previous experience I would say this is a bad move (Sorry Jon, but your father could be a real pain in the butt)

So, to continue. Whilst this forum is quite, I do notice that despite OCP having a fuller membership, it still doesn't get very many posts per day, so I think that this forum could have life put back into it.

Firstly I would suggest updating vbulletin and maybe adding a few more of the options available on it. It has the capacity to be a basic social networking site.
Second: Lower the amount of posts before someone can post a link. Again this is in the vBulletin software where it can automatically prevent people from doing this. The forum I mod on is set at 25. This appears to deter the spammers. They haven't got the patience to post 25 times before they put up crap.
Third: Lower the amount of posts before someone can PM another member.
Fourth: Seeing this site could be a more liberal religious site, then maybe a intro page saying as much. You know, all types welcome be them atheist, christian, muslim, etc. A place to discuss faith and to escape the fundamental practices we see in the extremists.
Fifth: A limit on sig sizes.

I might have more, but other suggestion might be nice to hear from.

Mike.
Yeah that might attract a broader crowd, when I get around to it ill make some of those changes

Smile history and future of this place

Hello all,

I've just moved to Edinburgh (going from one place with too much rain to another, although for the few days I've been here, the weather has been kind), had no time for anything more than drive-by posts. But now that I've taken some time to read up on things, it does make for interesting reading.

I can definitely confirm the 'luring people over to other places through PMs' part. One of the prominent former members here is the one who pointed out ourchristianplace to me. Told me quite a few had moved there and asked me a few times to come and voice an atheist point of view there. I didn't take up the invitation and from what Commodore says, the climate there may have changed a bit since then. The former itpog member who invited me would know I would have been throwing science at them at every occasion. But I'm glad I mentioned the place here and that Commodore seems to have taken up doing the good work for me. Well done. I might sign up there sometime, but not for a good while. I'm busy getting everything sorted out now here in my new city and will go on holiday in two weeks, and shortly after that I start my new job at Edinburgh university. Little time.

On the other hand, the things people mention here do bring back memories of the 'happy bad old days'. If I do sign up, I'll probably not sign up as FHA again. Even though I genuinely intended to be civil when I signed up here, I ended up yelling at fundies (and on a few occasions non-fundies too) too often.

There is one thing I'd like to bring up which is somewhat related to persons leaving/being banned. Debbie tells me she can't access the forum anymore. I've only heard her side of things. Jon, if she is indeed prevented from accessing the forum, is there any chance she would be let back in again? She may be in the category of banned people under 'Self Proclaimed Christians', but she was well liked by most (including me). A self-professed fundamentalist who is popular among the atheist crowd sounds just too good to miss, right?
If there are things you prefer not to mention here, then please pm me.

greets,
Peter

Cheers. Another reason is that the so called christian forgiveness on OCP annoys me about this forum. Such things as "I prayed to god for ITPOG to fail" is not really keeping to a christian image. If anything I would like this forum to continue and hopefully get better just to p!55 off some of those self righteous hypocrites.

Did any of them really post that? Oooohhhhhhhhhhh, please post a url if they did. That is one very good reason to stick with itpog!

Come to think of it, if any of the old itpog fundies read this, they'll probably see it as confirmation that this site is now satans outlet into cyberspace. Atheists are voicing their hope to keep it alive, so it must be evil then. lol

greets,
Peter

One particular debating thread that caught my eye: "Where do infants and innocent children go - according to scripture". Their idea of a debate is very funny, in that the only answers that may be used must come from the bible.

I won't stand for that, and therefore will remain here. I have already suggested that they a turn Amish if they hate science so much. ... but apparantly god gave them their computer, so it all works out.
Oi, comment me. I am getting fed up of the God bless yous and we are praying for you and sickening pictures of hearts, mythical creatures and bits of scripture. It is like being stuck in a My Little Pony/Barbie nightmare, only more sugary. I can see why people go nuts with shotguns now.
I gave you a decent picture and I want one back.

It's just numbers at the very least, and quite possibly God's will that it closed down.
I personally prayed many times for it to be either righted by God, or shut down by God.

Thanks. Oh boy, oh boy. I read that thread and it brings back the atmosphere of the old itpog. And for sure, Jeff locked the thread when it headed in a direction he didn't like. He did that on itpog as well a number of times. That I always found such an annoying display of attempted mind control: 'you will not think this, you will not discuss this, it is the way I say and don't you dare even discussing otherwise.'

If I ever register there I'm not sure I would last very long.

I'm surprised I am doing so well. Mind you I try to avoid Jeff and am currently in debate with two fairly open mined guys, billinjackson, who is quite nice to debate with and Roman1, who is a catholic and so not into the evangelical preaching.
BTW Debbie has joined there under the username NCAF. It turns out I used to talk to her quite often on Jref when she posted there on a regular basis. Small world, she never let on here.

Billinjackson is the one who invited me over there. So I would indeed expect him to be willing to openly debate things. When my presence on itpog was limited solely to the 'How to talk to atheist friends' I also had some constructive exchanges of views with him./ Seemed like an ok guy to me.

And Debbie told me via email that she will digitally stalk you to no end! I think she must somewhat fancy you.
