Unhappy The future of itpog

With one of the active posters bailing out (NCAngelFire) recently, I looked at the member list, sorted by number of posts. I knew traffic was waaaaay down since 'that period' on the forum. And the numbers confirm it.

Jon is now at the top of the list with 3152. I find myself at number 17 with Commodore closing in on me. Many of the still registered heavy posters between Jon and myself are old-timers who are still members but don't post anymore.

If you then look at the bottom of each page (100 members per page) the number of posts are as follows:

100 -> 91
200 -> 36
300 -> 17
400 -> 11
500 -> 6

Then it fizzles out further. So something like 700 members have a single digit number of posts. 300 or so no posts at all, I assume these are mostly spam-bot generated members (also judging from their strange names).

So the forum appears to be in its twilight. I can't imagine that the adds generate any significant income (unless spam bots follow the link adds, giving the appearance of a busy forum to Google). Or whether that is even still a relevant consideration.

Would I be unduly pessimistic if I thought this place might not make it into 2009?

greets,
Peter

Peter you might actually be a prophet LOL

Everything runs its course and unless you are appealing to peoples tastes and views with stuff they can say yes that is Truth.. or ahhh I might find the answers here

Chances are they are going to go elsewhere and spend their time..

Heck who knows maybe people are surfing porn

Religious sites if you go visit some of the many around online they all have around 10 to 15 people that post on a frequent basis the rest just observe or dont get involved.

Religion is a HOT subject, lots of feathers are fluttered when people disagree, more so than your average forum on dogs, cars, movies, computers, websites etc etc..

You rarely get people on their telling others to repent of their love of Cats or telling people they are going to burn in hell for feeding their dogs pedigree chum.

The ads on this site overall still do well and partly that is why I keep it up, also conversations occasionally draw out new things which later on down the road may come in handy.

But the direction I personally am heading in, may cause me at some point down the road to shut this site down as I see it has served its purpose

We will see..

We maybe could just all agree to migrate to a more active board. It is kinda fun giving people who are set in their ways a mass invasion of new ideas.

Is that how you enjoy spending your time?

One thing I will say is since most of the fundies left, the traffic to this website has actually increased. I dont know if anyone here uses an Alexa bar but each month that has shown an increase in traffic..

Maybe because it now deals with thoughts and ideas that people have but usually are shut down by fundamentalists

But I like the fundies. A bit like teasing a cat with a ball of string...

When I first joined I said that if I wanted everyone to agree with me I'd spend all my time over at atheistforums.com, and I've noticed too that a lot of the fire has gone out of the discussions here.

Jon, you do a great job, but you need to find a way of attracting some new fundies for us, or luring the old ones back. I've still got a bunch of stuff to say, but I want someone to be offended enough by it to have a real go at it. The lot we've got here at the moment are too open-minded for my liking...

I'm not going to desert itpog, but I think Commodore has a point when he says we should try our luck elsewhere as well.
