Thumbs up Shaolin Arts

Anyone else out there a martial arts fan? I do martial arts & I love it! we study Shaolin Arts (Karate Kung Fu) with United Studios of Self Defense). You get a fabulous workout, get in shape, release stress, & also build confidence & learn to defend yourself all at the same time. It totally rocks. So, am I the only martial artist out there on the face of this planet? I'm currently a yellow belt so I do have a long way to go. Anyhow, just wondering where all my martial arts bros & sis's are at! Where are y'all???

I don't do martial arts (after all, I am 50 years old...), but I do love your avatar! Very nice! Hey, and welcome, of course!

Hi there. I used to do wado ryu karate, got up to green belt, but my husband has been very sick this year and I haven't had time to keep up with it. Also, I keep finding myself wondering whether it is very Christian to practise martial arts! Which is a question I'd like answering, as I did really love it.

Anyway, nice to have you on board. I'm wondering if I should refer to you as "grasshopper..."

Hi how are you. My brother was the youngest black belt in Europe when he was younger (shotokan). It's popular in my family. i love the idea but am more of a rugby man. i think it is great so long as they cut out meditation to other Gods (budah for example). You should read "Taming The Tiger" by "Tony Anthony". He was a world champion and a kunfu master. He went of the rails totally but is now a Christian and writes his testamony in this book. It's an amazing read. He even one the kumati (not sure of spelling here)

I don't like the meditation aspect of karate either, but my sensei was a Christian, and wouldn't do it. However, when other senseis took over for some lessons we were expected to meditate. At the time I didn't have a problem with it, but I would do now!

What rugby do you play John? I played union at university, but I prefer to watch League.

I know, I know! I'm not terribly feminine, am I?

I play Union as ther is not any leaugue in Scotland. Always jump at the chance to play leauge though. My friend Mary Pat plays flanker for the Scotland Female Team. My team won the Scottish cup at under 18 and I play in premier 3 but that's as far as I got. Love the game though. It looks like mayhem but it's good to see the repect it envolves.

One of the things I love about my husband is that although he is disabled, and always had one leg that didn't work, he played a very good and enthusiastic game of league in his day, and organised teams for kids locally to keep them out of mischief. There is something about a man who refuses to be told that he can't walk, and flings himself into a game of rugby that makes a woman weak at the knees. He is so cool.

That's great to hear Mary! Hallelujah! I used to play soccer, then became a soccer refreee for 15 years. They called me the crazy referee.

He ran a soccer club as well, but his first love was rugby. Have you ever seen wheelchair rugby? Affectionately called "Murder Ball", because it is so vicious.

Priscilla, Age has nothing to do with it. There's a 10th degree black belt over the age of 65. You slowly get into shape. It's like a child having to learn to sit up, crawl, walk, & eventually run. You're not a black belt who's totally in shape automatically. You gradually get there. You could do it....if you want to set your mind to it!
