Default More Info Pleez

I admit, i've been rather a vague and mysterious character here. But for some reason, i just suddenly want to know more about people, so i guess i'm obliged to start.

Where do you work?

Do you study? What?

Are you where you want to be?

Are you following your dreams, or settling for second best?

I currently work at an RSL (returned serviceman's league). Not exactly where i want to be, but it's only casual work so i have time for my uni studies.

I currently study religion, criminology, and education. Though i think that's soon to change. I can;t stand criminolgy, and the on;y way to get rid of it is to drop that AND education. Say goodbye to my dream of being a teacher.

I'll be going into the police force instead. Nothing better than protecting society, and nothing more noble as i see it.

I'm in between postdoc jobs. Having a few months of unpaid leave is not the worst thing in the world! Until my contract ended here at Queens University Belfast, I was studying FeCr alloys through computer simulation. And would continue in that area if a job application in Edinburgh, Scotland comes through. If fusion energy can be made to work, those alloys would likely be used to build future power plants.

I like academic research well enough. It gives you probably more freedom to do things the way you think best than just about any other job. The low number of permanent jobs in academia is a bit of a pest, as you have to pack things up and move every couple of years. On the other hand, that does have its nice sides too.

I'm not exactly following a dream. I'm quite ok with the life I'm living, but I suppose I am living a pretty regular life. I chose this direction early on at school because I was good at math, physics, chemistry, etc. And as I moved through the latter stages of college, I developed a strong interest in physics research. I like finding out how small pieces of nature work. So in that sense I'm following what came naturally. That's not a bad thing.

greets,
Peter

Police work is a great occupation. I personally do not have what it takes to do that kind of work. In the US, especially in the cities, police are greatly under appreciated. No one wants to see a cop unless they need a cop. And in the neighborhood where I grew up, sad to say, they are seen as the enemy. Don't be afraid to keep going to school and take a class here and there. You may still become a teacher that way, if that is the way you prefer.

Who is Someday?

Just a person. For reasons of my own, I prefer to remain as anonymous as possible on these forums.
Without going into detail, I will say that I am educated, never really stopped going to school, am in my 40's and constantly running up my student **** bill. I work in the IT field, but again, I don't want to go into the details of my work.
I follow politics closely, but I no longer vote. I can relate to a man like Obama sitting in a Church for a long time without being convinced in their theology. I personally have been a longstanding member of an evangelical, fundamentalist leaning church here in Ohio. I do not go there due to any theological agreement with them at all, but mainly because they are good people who do great work with the poor and the downtrodden.
I used to travel frequently, usually work related, and have been all over the world and encountered many different people and many different cultures. That began when I was in the US Navy and continued in later work. I travel far less now, and I prefer it that way for the time being, as I have stuck roots in the ground and wish to be around to nourish them.

I am a firm believer in the quote I have as my signature, and that when all is said and done, even Stalin and Hitler will be/have been forgiven and will be reconciled to God.

I know, a lot of typing to say very little specific, but I must remain anonymous.

Blessings

FHA, you followed what came naturally, but what was that one thing that you just WANTED, despite any obstacle?

And someday, anonymity is fine, though i guarantee you i could find you if i wanted

And there is a HUGE difference between Aussie, and American cops. Your cops go into every situation guns drawn, fearing the worst. Our guns are unloaded, clip has to be put in before being fired. More dangerous, but i spose our cops aren;t seen as such a 'threat' as such.

How was your stay in the navy?

The Navy was an excellent opportunity and it changed the direction of my life. Before this, all I really knew was life in western Pennsylvania, with a few vacations to some of America's vacation spots. My neighborhood was a melting pot of Greek, Italian, Irish , Polish, Ukrainian and American working class people all thrown together working in the same mills and going to the same schools. But actually leaving that place and going to other countries was an experience I would recommend to everyone.
I liked the military too, but it was also a very unsettling experience to be constantly exchanging posturing gestures of tactical dominance with the Soviets. All the time, back and forth it went. Both in the air and on the sea, it was a constant battle for tactical supremacy. I began my career admiring the F-14 and it's weaponry and abilities, and ended it disdaining the very need for it's presence on earth. All these massive resources spent to protect political ideals was decidedly ugly to me. But then again, I also was converted to Christianity in the Navy, and I think that had a lot of impact on how I felt about what we were doing out there.

Blessings

I don't think I had very clear boyhood dreams of what I wanted to do later in life. Later on I developed a desire for seeing faraway places. One obstacle to taking a few years off and traveling all over the world would be the problem I'd have reconnecting to career etc after I return.

Peter

edit: oh, and I never mentioned my age. I have my 34th birthday coming up in a few weeks.
