Taking 100% Responsiblity
It’s everyone else but me! At some point everyone has been in the position of blaming others for the way things are, or for the way things aren’t going.. somewhere along the line we have all thought that someone else is or should be responsible for making our lives the way we want it…
It sure can seem at times as though the world is plotting to do you nothing but bad, everything and anything either doesn’t seem to work out or go according to plans, but is that the truth?
Every negative event contains within it the seed of an equal or greater benefit - Napoleon Hill
The world we see around us and the circumstances that occur usually boil down to 2 things
1. We have created it
2. We have allowed it
Think of all the different things that the world today is facing in various countries around the world, such as debt, starvation, obsesity, war etc etc.. Place on top of that things which are a little closer to home
1. Family Problems
2. Relationship Problems
3. Health Problems
4. Financial Problems
5. Addictions
Immediately you probably are able to clearly see in your mind scenarios that you have or are going through, which you might want to justify to yourself that someone else is to blame
Today we have become experts at passing the buck, pointing the finger when really the answer is closer than we WANT to accept.
The Problem is ourselves.
You must take responsibility, you cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind but you can change yourself - Jim Rohn
Here is a story that has been heard numerous times, yet it paints a clear picture.
A man is taking a walk one night and he comes across another man on his knees looking around underneath a street lamp. The passerby asks what the man is searching for. He answers that he is looking for his lost key. The passerby offers to help the man search for his key, so he gets down on his knees and begins. A hour passes and they still haven’t found the key, he asks the man ” Are you sure you lost it here? ”
The other man replies ” No, I lost it in my house, but there is more light out here under the street lamp. “
There is a time in everyones life when looking for answers outside of yourself, as to why you are not living your purpose, why you are not getting the results you want from life has to stop. It is you who creates the quality of your life. You have not been dealt a bad deck of cards, and even if everything around you confirms that. It still can be changed
No one else is responsible
No one else. Only You!
Take a close look at your life, look at what you are allowing to happen and what you are creating through the choices you make.
You see everything you desire in life usually isn’t what you really desire. It is the feeling behind doing, being and having whatever it is you are after that you want.
What ever we perceive is preventing us from the feeling we desire ( love, acceptance, recognition, joy, happiness, etc ) is really an illusion. ( read that again )
We have been told that our circumstance dictate how we are to feel, but that is not truth.
People say all the time, I will be happy when.., I will be satisfied when.. ( fill in the blanks )
Underneath all of the wanting is really the desire for the FEELING of happiness and contentment.
You don’t have to reach a goal to be happy now
You don’t have to get this and that to be happy now
You can simply choose to be happy and experience the feeling of that now.
There is much that can be discussed on the subject of ” What we feel ” but I will save that for another time.
Excuses must end
Taking full responsibility for what we allow to happen to us and around us, means our excuses have to end, we have to say goodbye to
They should do this
I should have this
I should be this
I am like this because of…
My mother, father, were like this
Its in my genes..
There is not enough time
No one will give me a break..
In the movie ” The Pursuit of Happyness ” starring Will Smith we see a wonderful example of a man who could have blamed a lot of people for the results he was getting in his life. He reached the point where he slept on a washroom floor.
Blame the justice system
Blame his wife
Blame his business
Blame society
Blame his roots
Ultimately, he demonstrated clearly ” Taking 100% responsibility for your life ” and went on to become a wall street legend. The story was based on Chris Gardner.
What about bad events?
Events can and do come, that knock the wind out of our sails, that take our feet out from underneath us. Taking responsibility is not about suppressing how you feel about an event, it is about determining within yourself to change the final outcome through your response.
