Worship Song Writing – Let it Sleep

chrisChris Tomlin Recently Wrote a Piece for  a Worship Magazine. One part of it I really got a lot out of it and I thought I would share it

Let it Sleep

“Sometimes all the elements of outstanding worship music are present, but fail to drop into place. That’s when patience—an often-underused tool of songwriting—must be put to use. “I think it’s a lesson in perseverance, sticking with something,” Tomlin says of his most popular song. “Feeling like you have something there and not letting it go until it’s right. I’ve heard Matt Redman say that songwriting is like brewing tea. You don’t just put it in the water and drink it. You have to let it sit. You have to let it brew and let the flavor come out. I think that’s a good lesson in songwriting. Just because you wrote a song the night before doesn’t mean it’s ready the next day.”

I agree with what Chris and Matt said here.., the tricky part is we tend to be impatient and eager to start doing it, instead of allowing time to see if we have said everything God wants us to say in songs being written.

Now there are times worship songs come quick and fast, but for the most part they are crafted over time and usually most of the good ones that really carry an annointing and last throughout time.have had much input from others. Not just a great riff.. Yet a great riff can be how it begins.
