Gibson vs Fender

FenderKOATelecasterWhat type of Guitar do you own? Are you trying to get a certain sound but just cant find it? What is the difference between the Gibson and the Fender Guitar?

Ok here is the thing. I own a Les Paul Gibson Midnight Manhanttan Guitar, very nice but previous to that I had a fender stratocaster, at times it was awesome and other times it was a pain as the pickups on it would make the entire church building buzz! They were unprotected pickups.

One thing I loved about the fender though was how the neck to me seemed to be extremely playable vs the gibson which at the time I never thought I would own a les paul, mainly because they were very expensive.

To cut a long story short.. I bought a les paul and sold by fender strat, a year on I have been enjoying the gibson but have missed a certain distinct sound that fender guitars give you that you just cannot get from a les paul.. its that sparkle sound, that light U2 sound..

So after having run into a number of complications with my Gibsons intonation going out of whack I have it in the shop for a complete setup, meanwhile I have taken home a nice telecaster to play on and im telling you this thing is a dream!.. I have it plugged into my Line 6 Delay, then into a Boss Blues Driver and then into a Fulltone Fulldrive 2… then into my volume and then into my Vox AC30 tube amp..

You would be suprised at how much a mexican tele can vary in sound from a gibson and a gibsonlespaulgtfender strat. I have spent some of this afternoon playing it and will be handing in my podxt with floor pedal for this guitar. I Really did enjoy the podxt and its great for home computer use but when it comes to putting it with a voxac30 tube amp it messes up the nice sound you get from it… so why not hand it in and own a gibson and a fender..

Its going to make playing a heck of a lot more fun

So what are the major differences between a Gibson and a Fender..

Well these are some of what I notice, other than the look and pickups, the feel of the neck to me is something very different, a fender neck is like butter in your hands easy to slide down where as a gibson is very chunky and personally it doesnt slide well in my hands.

The pickups on a telecaster/stratocaster vs a gibson are Single Coil vs Humbuckers.. a major difference in sound. Though Today I did play a texan tele which had a fender humbucker on it and it sounded pretty good.

Weight – Gibsons are majorly heavy vs fenders which are very light and easy to hold and play for long periods of time.

Sound – Gibsons provide a more harder, harsher sound, great for crunchier parts but not so great for more delicate parts, thats why you see most guitarists own both and swap them over regularly.

Well thats it for now!..
