Song writer and worship leader Matt Redman has come along way from his humble beginnings, I remember reading and article a while back that said, they only job he had before he took on the job of being a worship leader in watford england.was a job at Halfords ( bike shop in the uk).
Since then Matt has filled the churches all over the world with fresh praise and worship songs.
Along the way he has made good friends with Martin Smith from Delirous and has co-written many songs with him. I remember being in toronto when delirious first came to canada.. They played at catch the fire and I remember him mentioning Matt Redman and saying.. ” you want to invite him to come out “.. well as they say.. Cream rises to the top in the end.
Saying that though… Matt would play at large events and then be out on the streets playing to just a handful of people.. so I know it hasn’t all gone to his head
His current albums and cds he has contributed are as follows
Blessed Be Your Name (2005)
Facedown (2004)
Where Angels Fear to Tread (2002)
The Father’s Song (2000)
The Heart of Worship (1999)
The Friendship and the Fear (1998)
His current website is www.mattredman.com you can find information on where he is playing and what hes up to.
Some of the many songs that have impacted churches, have been ” Heart of Worship, Better is One Day, Let my words be few, once again, the cross has said it all and many more. I believe his approach to writing songs has been very down to earth and yet extremely powerful in the end. The combination of Gods word and everyday life has filled the church with songs that draw people into a deeper walk with God.
Matt says “I can look back on the past few years of writing songs and see what God has been doing in my life,” says Redman. “It’s a bit like journaling. It’s just part of me and it’s how I let my heart overflow before God. But on top of that, when you’ve poured out your heart to God in a little room somewhere, and then one day you visit a church in another country and they’re singing your song, it’s a great encouragement, because ultimately that’s what the songs are for. It makes me more passionate about trying to write songs in a way that lots of different people can sing. That’s the heart behind it all. Sing first with an eye towards God—let every melody and word be an inspired heartfelt response to Him. But sing also with the church in mind—crafting that inspiration in a way that might help others give voice to their worship of Jesus.”
